The museum opened on 5 June 1982. It was created, and is still maintained by the Association ‘Oud-Asperen’. This association receives financial support from the municipality of Lingewaal.

The museum is located in a small nineteenth-century workers ' house, which has been returned to its original state as much as possible. It was a very small house, but the former residents have enlarged it by building a room at the rear.

The building has, after the last residents had left, served for years as an association building for the local carrier pigeon association ‘de Snelle Vogel’. The front part, the original house, is furnished as an antique room. It tries to give a true picture of the way a working-class family lived at the end of the 19th century.
